Director of Nursing (DON)

Fort Wayne, IN Inpatient Behavioral Health & Psychiatric Treatment


About the Role

Allendale Behavioral Health is seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing (DON) to lead and oversee all nursing operations within our inpatient facility. This role is essential in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care for individuals facing mental health struggles. As a key member of the leadership team, the DON partners closely with Medical and Clinical Directors to drive clinical excellence, support staff development, and contribute to strategic decision-making across the organization.


What You'll Do:

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop nursing staff, including the Assistant Director of Nursing
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, and day-to-day nursing operations
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard new nursing team members
  • Provide performance evaluations, coaching, and corrective action when needed

Clinical Oversight & Quality

  • Direct nursing care delivery and ensure high standards of patient care
  • Monitor patient outcomes and continuously improve care quality
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and all regulatory standards
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with clinical guidelines (as needed)
  • Anticipate departmental needs and proactively implement solutions

Patient-Centered Care

  • Promote a culture of respect, dignity, and patient involvement in treatment and recovery
  • Educate patients and families on addiction, mental health, and recovery with empathy
  • Support crisis intervention, de-escalation, and patient safety initiatives
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation in patient records

Collaboration & Strategy

  • Partner with Medical and Clinical Directors on treatment programs and initiatives
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and treatment planning
  • Establish and track departmental goals, metrics, and performance outcomes
  • Communicate effectively across clinical, medical, and leadership teams


What We're Looking For:

  • Proven leadership experience in a clinical setting

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • High emotional intelligence and cultural competency
  • Commitment to ethical, compliant, and patient-centered care


Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Active RN license in the state of Indiana (required)
  • 3+ years of clinical management experience in behavioral health or addiction treatment (preferred)
  • Master's degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration (may substitute for experience)
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace
