Position Overview

The Plant Mechanic plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe maintenance and repair of mining machinery typically utilized in an aggregate facility, such as crushers, screen decks, conveyors, and drums. This position involves conducting pre-shift and post-shift inspections of equipment, completing necessary daily documentation, and providing support for plant operations as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct safety and mechanical inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on crushing plants, screens, conveyors, feeders, and other plant support systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks, including lubrication, fluid changes, screen replacements, belt adjustments, and component inspections.
  • Replace bearings, rollers, pumps, motors, hoses, cylinders, and structural components as necessary.
  • Assist with plant rebuilds, relocations, and significant maintenance shutdowns.
  • Maintain detailed logs of maintenance activities and work orders.
  • Operate loaders, excavators, water trucks, haul trucks, skid steers, and other equipment to support operations as needed.
  • Safely handle materials, load stockpiles, and assist with plant cleanup and resets.
  • Perform basic daily checks on equipment before and after use.
  • Communicate equipment needs and repair timelines with supervisors and operators.
  • Collaborate with plant and mobile equipment teams to reduce downtime.
  • Assist in training operations staff on equipment care and inspection practices.
  • Address any housekeeping issues in the workspace and maintain a clean and organized area.
  • Travel to various facilities to perform maintenance and repair tasks, which may include occasional work at ready-mix plants.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues to minimize costs and prevent operational delays, including hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic system problems.
  • Understand and adhere to MSHA regulations; consistently follow company policies and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Identify and report safety hazards or equipment concerns immediately.
  • Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and training programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Educational Background

High school diploma or GED is required.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • 2-5+ years of experience in a plant mechanic role or a similar position.
  • Familiarity with crushing equipment, including impact, jaw, and cone crushers.
  • Understanding of conveyor alignment, belt tracking, and belt splicing.
  • Strong mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting abilities.
  • Experience in welding, fabrication, or using a cutting torch is preferred.
  • Must provide personal tools typically used in aggregate facility maintenance.
  • Physical capabilities: able to lift or move up to 100 lbs., stand, walk, climb, bend, stretch, kneel, crouch, and drive on uneven terrain.
  • Able to work in both wet and dry conditions, as well as in extreme temperatures.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work extended hours or variable shifts as necessary.
  • Knowledge and experience in operating and maintaining crushers, wash plants, conveyors, material washers, and various other fixed equipment used in the industry.
  • Experience operating heavy machinery such as loaders, excavators, articulated dump trucks, dozers, and water trucks.
  • Adhere to MSHA regulations, company safety policies, and lockout/tagout procedures at all times.
  • Current MSHA training certification is preferred.
Employment Conditions

The selected candidate will be required to undergo a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug and alcohol screening, and a background check. Some positions may necessitate ongoing drug and alcohol testing in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
