Veterinary Assistant

Purdue Veterinary Hospital is hiring an amazing Veterinary Assistant to support our Emergency and Critical Care team. The Emergency and Critical Care teams provide 24-hour support to pets and their owners. Veterinary Assistants will be responsible for patient care (walking, feeding, and cleaning), patient restraint for physical exams and sample collection, emergency triage, and assistance during a variety of emergency procedures. This team also keeps the service running by stocking and ordering supplies, cleaning, and alerting the nursing team to any observed patient concerns. All members of the team are respected for their knowledge and experience and recognized for their contributions to fantastic patient care. Veterinary assistants provide around the clock care, and schedules may rotate through day/night shifts as well as weekends and holidays. Schedules will be discussed during the interview.

This position could be filled at multiple levels (S2 or S3). The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.

S2 requirements: High School Diploma/GED One year of relevant work experience in a veterinary hospital setting or related animal experience

S3 requirements: High School Diploma/GED Two years of relevant work experience in a veterinary hospital setting

Skills Needed: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations Ability to read and write in English Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally Must have confidence around domestic animals and basic knowledge of animal husbandry Nice to have: NAVTA Veterinary Assistant certificate Experience working in a veterinary teaching hospital or multi-specialty veterinary hospital
