MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

Overview of this role

We are seeking a safety-conscious and methodical Maintenance Mechanic to join our Maintenance team. In this role, you’ll perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance tasks on a variety of mobile and fixed plant equipment, with a focus on safety, environmental stewardship, reliability, and continuous improvement. Your contributions will be integral to the success of the Asset Management function at Sunshine.

What you’ll do

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repairs, and inspections on a variety of equipment, such as mobile, fixed plant, and ancillary systems.

• Diagnose equipment faults and implement effective repairs to minimize downtime.

• Perform project-related maintenance duties which involve an interface with external contractors.

• Carry out preventive and predictive maintenance activities aligned with the site maintenance strategy and OEM requirements,

• Perform project-related maintenance duties which may involve an interface with external contractors for installation and commissioning of equipment,

• Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and equipment condition in the site CMMS,

• Collaborate with Maintenance Planners and Supervisors to optimize job planning, parts availability, and scheduling efficiency,

• Participate in reliability improvement initiatives, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Defect Elimination (DE) processes,

• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety, cost control, equipment performance, and work practices,

• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with site policies, MSHA/OSHA regulations, and relevant standards,

• Work in a manner which fosters a culture of safety and collaboration.

What you’ll need

Required

• High school graduate or equivalent,

• Demonstrated experience in maintenance of mining or heavy industrial equipment, such as heavy and light mobile fleets, locomotives, conveyors, crushers, hoists, pumps, compressors, or similar,

• Strong diagnostic skills with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and lubrication systems,

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, equipment manuals, and technical data,

• Basic computer skills (MS Office, maintenance software), and familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS),

• Proven commitment to safe work practices and risk management,

• MSHA 40-hour training upon commencement (or provide current 5000-23),

• Ability to pass required physical and drug screening.

Preferred (but not required)

• Five years’ experience as a mine hoist mechanic.

• Qualification in a mechanical trade (e.g., Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Millwright, Diesel Mechanic, etc.),

• Welding and fabrication skills.

The work environment

This role is site-based, working on a shift or rotational schedule, and may require work on nights and weekends.

The duties of this role will require you to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods, use hands to handle or feel objects and tools; reach with arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate clearly with others. You will be required to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 125 pounds. Vision requirements include close and distance vision as well as the ability to adjust focus.

There is exposure to underground, surface, and workshop environments, with requirement to work at heights, in confined spaces, noisy areas, and in varying weather conditions. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.
