Compassionate Mental Health Therapist - Remote Position at Sentara Behavioral and Health Wellness

Sentara Behavioral and Health Wellness is seeking a dedicated and skilled Licensed Mental Health Therapist to join our compassionate team. • Conduct comprehensive trauma-informed mental health assessments to gauge patients' trauma histories and identify suitable treatment strategies.


• Develop and implement personalized treatment plans centered on trauma recovery and resilience, integrating patient input for meaningful outcomes.


• Utilize evidence-based therapeutic interventions such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) in therapy sessions.


• Facilitate both individual and group therapy sessions aimed at helping patients process their trauma, build coping strategies, and foster healing.


• Work collaboratively with psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals to ensure a comprehensive and integrated approach to patient care.


• Provide crisis intervention and immediate support during trauma-related emergencies, offering essential stabilization and guidance to patients.


• Educate patients and their families on trauma responses, coping techniques, and available mental health resources, enhancing understanding and support networks.


• Ensure accurate and confidential documentation that complies with all legal and ethical standards, contributing to the integrity of patient care.


• Participate in case consultations, team meetings, and ongoing professional development to stay updated on the latest research and clinical practices in trauma therapy.

The ideal candidate will work with a client base primarily comprised of individuals who have experienced significant trauma. This includes survivors of abuse, neglect, and various adversities leading to PTSD and other trauma-related disorders. A deep understanding of trauma-informed care and the resilience-building process is essential to effectively support and empower our patients on their journey to healing.

• A Master's or doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution.


• Current and valid licensure as an LCSW, LPCC, or LMFT in the state of California.


• Strong understanding of trauma-related disorders and evidence-based treatment modalities for trauma.


• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with a compassionate and non-judgmental approach.


• Ability to maintain composure in high-stress situations, demonstrating strong crisis management capabilities.


• Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation and patient management.


• Collaborative mindset, thriving within a multidisciplinary treatment team.

While 2 years of post-licensure experience is preferred, we value comprehensive knowledge and a demonstrated ability in trauma-focused therapies and interventions. Candidates who have previously worked in outpatient settings and have familiarity with a range of therapeutic techniques for trauma recovery will be viewed favorably.
