Market Manager - Field Operations

Summary:

The Market Manager for Field Operations provides leadership and oversight for the day-to-day operations of two traffic-control branch locations in North Carolina. This position leads field operations and branch support teams and is accountable for maintaining safe, efficient, and profitable operations while ensuring a high level of engagement with internal and external customers. This role develops and executes operating plans to achieve financial and operational goals while improving productivity, supporting growth, and reducing operational and safety risks.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Direct and oversee daily operations across two North Carolina locations, including traffic-control services, project execution, scheduling, dispatch, fleet, equipment, inventory, and field operations.


• Develop and execute operating plans that support revenue, profitability, customer service, safety, and growth objectives.


• Establish location and department goals that align with the company’s overall business strategy.


• Develop and manage operating budgets, staffing plans, capital needs, and cost-control initiatives.


• Monitor revenue, gross margin, labor costs, overtime, project profitability, equipment utilization, productivity, and other key performance indicators.


• Collaborate with the GM to analyze financial and operational results and implement corrective actions when performance does not meet established expectations.


• Evaluate and improve operating systems, workflows, policies, and procedures to increase efficiency, consistency, and scalability.


• Utilizing branch managers and ensure customer projects are properly planned, staffed, equipped, and completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.


• Coordinate resources between locations to meet customer demand and maximize workforce, fleet, and equipment utilization.


• Partner with sales and estimating teams to evaluate operational capacity, project requirements, pricing considerations, and customer commitments.


• Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local safety, transportation, employment, and industry regulations.


• Promote a strong safety culture and hold managers accountable for employee training, safe work practices, incident reporting, and corrective action.


• Monitor operational risks, including workplace injuries, vehicle incidents, property damage, service failures, and regulatory exposure.


• Establish clear performance expectations and accountability standards for managers and operational employees.


• Participate in the selection, development, evaluation, and performance management of operational staff.


• Maintain strong working relationships with key customers and assist with resolving significant service or project issues.


• Provide senior leadership with regular updates regarding financial performance, operational results, capacity, risks, and improvement initiatives.


• Regular travel between two branch locations and to customer/jobsites.


• Other projects and initiatives that drive organizational goals and results.

Supervisor Responsibilities:

• Operational & Support Staff at 2 Locations

Education, Certifications & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, operations management, construction management, or related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered..


• 5+ years of managerial experience in operations, construction services, traffic control, utilities, equipment rental, field services, or a related industry.


• Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, work-zone safety, and/or other regulations applicable to traffic-control operations.


• Experience with public-works, utility, roadway construction, or traffic-control projects desired.


• Above average knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Proven experience managing operating budgets, labor costs, fleet and/or equipment resources.


• Strong knowledge of field operations and a solid understanding of sales, estimating, finance, human resources, safety, and customer-service functions.


• Prior Experience leading others and overseeing operations across multiple locations.


• Must have strong problem-solving skills and a desire to create solutions.


• Maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.


• Must have the ability to work in sensitive and confidential situations.


• Prior experience working under tight deadlines with changing priorities.


• Ability to anticipate work needs and follow through with minimum direction.

• Position will work in an office warehouse, yard, and may travel to off-site locations and therefore require wearing all PPE depending on circumstance which may include safety glasses, hard hat, ear protection, safety vest and/or steel toed footwear.

• The position may require availability outside normal business hours to address customer needs, emergency traffic-control requests, severe weather, safety incidents, staffing issues, or other operational demands.
