Project Engineer - Oil & Gas (Mid-level)

Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Full-time | Engineering, Procurement & Construction Management (EPCm)

Looking to grow your engineering career with a team that actually supports your development?

Welcome to J H Operating Company — a hands-on, fast-moving EPCm firm where you're more than just a cog in the machine. We support upstream and midstream oil & gas projects across the U.S., and we’re looking for a ProjectEngineer to join our Baton Rouge office.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer (10–12 years) to take on meaningful, hands-on work, collaborate with industry veterans, and play a key role in delivering projects from design through execution.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the design, procurement, and execution of complex infrastructure projects, including production facilities, terminals, SWDs, and pipelines.

  • Work closely with Project Managers and other disciplines to carry projects from concept through commissioning.

  • Develop and review P&IDs and drawing packages, including 3D models, orthos, and isometrics, for technical accuracy and constructability.

  • Participate in and provide technical input during HAZOPs, PSSRs, field walkdowns, commissioning, and startup activities.

  • Perform equipment sizing and selection, develop specifications, support procurement, and provide technical review of vendor packages.

  • Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning, including resolving field issues and reviewing design changes.

  • Perform quality-control reviews and help ensure that engineering deliverables meet project, client, and applicable code requirements.

  • Apply tools such as ProMax, Autodesk, and internal systems to support project design and execution.

  • Strong working knowledge of applicable ASME, ANSI, and API codes and standards.

  • Experience reviewing and working with AutoCAD drawings and design packages.

  • Strong technical judgment with the ability to balance engineering requirements with practical, buildable solutions.

  • Develop practical solutions when projects present new or unusual technical challenges.

  • Travel occasionally to job sites, vendor locations, and client facilities (10–15%).

What We’re Looking For:

  • 10–12 years of progressive engineering experience, preferably in EPC and/or oil & gas.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients, project teams, vendors, and field personnel.

  • Confident working independently, making decisions, and taking ownership of your work.

  • Willing to jump in where needed, stay organized, and bring a little personality to the team.

  • Practical, solutions-focused, and comfortable working through challenges without needing a roadmap for everything.

  • Willing to travel as needed (10–15%) and able to pass a drug screen.
