This individual will work closely with field and operational leadership to ensure the company has the right equipment, in the right condition, at the right location, and at the right cost. Success in this role will require balancing immediate field needs with longer-term fleet planning while developing practical systems and processes that can scale with the business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Utilization & Field Support: Monitor utilization and availability; identify underused or overused assets; coordinate urgent field needs, rentals, and equipment moves; work with Operations to reduce unnecessary rentals and avoid equipment-related project delays.

• Capital Planning & Procurement: Develop multi-year replacement plans; forecast fleet needs based on backlog and growth; recommend purchase, lease, rental, repair, or disposal decisions using condition, utilization, and total cost of ownership; coordinate acquisition, upfitting, registration, deployment, and disposal.

• Budget & Cost Management: Develop and manage fleet operating and capital budgets; monitor fuel, maintenance, repair, rental, and related costs; analyze cost per mile/hour where appropriate; review invoices and identify cost-reduction opportunities without compromising safety or reliability.

• Safety & Compliance: Partner with Safety to support applicable DOT, FMCSA, state, and local requirements; maintain registrations, permits, inspections, and fleet documentation; support driver/vehicle compliance and fleet-related incident reviews.

• Systems, Controls & Reporting: Administer fleet management systems, GPS/telematics, fuel cards, and asset controls; develop useful dashboards and reports on availability, maintenance, utilization, cost, and replacement needs.

• Vendor & Team Leadership: Manage relationships with dealers, repair facilities, rental companies, fuel/tire providers, and upfitters; negotiate within delegated authority; standardize fleet procedures and accountability; supervise fleet/shop personnel as the function grows.

  • Working knowledge of preventive maintenance and equipment lifecycle management; experience coordinating repairs with internal and external service providers.

  • Strong understanding of fleet operating costs, developing fleet budgets, and cost-control principles.
